Use the Best

Our Approach

Within the world of software development, choices abound. There are numerous processes, tools, languages, patterns and practices that can be bought to bear. There's also no "one true way", no silver bullet.

Given this, we think that the single most important thing is to fully understand the needs and business of the customer - without a full understanding of their needs, it's simply impossible to provide an opinion of the most appopriate way to approach their requirements.

How do we know what's best?

Two main ways. The first is through the depth and breadth of experience that we can bring to bear - many of the "new" ideas in development are no more than rehashes of old techniques, and spotting this makes the evaluation and ramp-up much faster. The second way is through continual learning. We read. A lot. We watch screencasts, listen to podcasts, participate on Twitter, attend and present at user groups and conferences.

Through our social networks we quickly hear about new ideas and trends and we have learnt which industry commentators know their stuff and which are pundits that simply leap on the next bandwagon for the ride. Our extensive involvement in the Open Source community provides us with a valuable reputation which often gives us an inside track.

We're not perfect

And in case that makes us sound too awesome, we're happy to admit that we also get it wrong occasionaly. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying - if they're not, you really should just give your project to them and stop reading other peoples websites. Because the odd mistake is inevitable, we are huge fans of Scrum. The key value that Scrum brings is its ability to surface issues very early in the process, giving plenty of time to do something about them.
